What if professional development were focused on inspiring and empowering teachers to be lifelong learners?

I like that Providence Day School has Professional Development Coordinators.  We have one in each division, and they do so much more than coordinate professional development.  I wonder what would happen if we called these individuals “Lifelong Learning Shepherds” or “Lifelong Learning Sherpas” or the satisfyingly alliterative “Lifelong Learning Leaders.”  We need coordination and coordinators.  Even more, we need provocation and provocateurs.  In equal measure to the provocation, we need support and supporters.  Thanks, Professional Development Coordinators, for being all of these things and more.
